Although Salesforces’ AppExchange is the best-known place to get products to extend Salesforce’s functionality, MetaDeploy is a great resource for products to help any nonprofit get the most out of Salesforce! You can access a wide range of packages from Salesforce.org and Salesforce’s Open Source Commons that might benefit your organization.
A Package is a set of features that can be downloaded and installed in your Salesforce organization. These might be maintained by their creator and periodically updated (a managed package), or they might be a set of features you can install and further customize in your organization (an unmanaged package).
What’s the advantage of a package? It allows you to access features that would take weeks or months to build, test, and deploy at a cost of tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of minutes, and most of the packages on MetaDeploy are free!
Salesforce.org Packages
Salesforce’s 1-1-1 model stipulates that 1% of their equity, technology, and employees’ time is used for philanthropy. Part of that is commitment to helping nonprofits track their data with nonprofit-specific products, mostly delivered through salesforce.org.
MetaDeploy has several Salesforce.org packages available for download, some applicable to any nonprofit and others more focused on specific verticals, such as education and grantmaking.
General Packages for Nonprofits Using Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP)
Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP)
NPSP has historically been the foundation for nonprofits in Salesforce. It includes the ability to track your constituents, manage their addresses, track their relationships and affiliations, and track development efforts, such as donations and grant applications. If you are a nonprofit, you are eligible for 10 free NPSP licenses through the Power of Us Program.
Volunteers for Salesforce (V4S)
V4S extends NPSP functionality to track your organization’s volunteers. It can be leveraged to create a volunteer calendar and integrated with your website to allow volunteers to sign up for shifts on their own.
Program Management Module (PMM)
PMM provides a framework to track, manage, and deliver your nonprofit’s programs, services, and service deliveries, for organizations with NPSP installed.
Einstein for Nonprofits
This package lets you leverage AI solutions for predictive insights and metrics based on your organization’s data, including predictions, which Salesforce uses to project things such as the likely outcome of your grant applications and major gifts based on your historical data. Note that your organization will need high data quality and some volume of data for meaningful recommendations.
Insights Platform Data Integrity
This package helps your organization keep contact data accurate, complete, and reliable by providing deduplication features, email and phone number validation, and mailing address standardization. It also has functionality to automate address updates for donors whose addresses change.
General Packages for Nonprofits Using NonProfit Cloud
Nonprofit Cloud Case Management
This package lets you track clients, services, case plans, incidents, and assessments in Nonprofit Cloud.
Marketing Cloud Engagement for Industries
This package requires purchased licenses to use. It provides a suite of outreach and communication tools that let you engage with your constituents no matter how large or complex your organization’s marketing strategy is!
Packages Useful for Grantmaker Nonprofits, Such as Foundations
Grants Management
This package helps to streamline the grantmaking process and helps grantmakers build and manage relationships with their grant recipients.
Outbound Funds Module
This package lets you easily manage and track funding requests and where outbound funds go.
OFM Fundseeker Starter Portal Template
This package lets you extend the Outbound Funds Module’s functionality by providing templates for portals for funding recipients to submit and monitor their funding requests.
Packages Useful for Organizations in the Education Sector
Education Data Architecture (EDA)
This package provides the data structure necessary to primary, secondary, or higher education institutions. It provides the means to track your faculty, staff, and students, as well as your campus and facilities, courses and curricula, program offerings, enrollments, attendance, grades, certifications and credentials, student behavior, applicants, and admissions.
K-12 Architecture Kit
This package provides the data structure to track a K-12 educational institution, including students, faculty and staff, school districts and schools, community members, classes, and other programs. It also provides the means to track how people and programs relate to each other and schools, as well as student performance, behavior, and characteristics.
Student Success Hub
This package expands the functionality of the EDA or K-12 Architecture Kit to allow faculty and staff to support students by accessing their grades, notes, pending tasks, and deadlines in a single source of truth. It allows teams to break down silos and collaborate to identify and deliver assistance to students who need it. The Student Success Hub also tracks tasks, interactions, appointments, and services provided to students. Additionally, this package provides the building blocks to create a portal for students to view communications, schedule their own appointments and support services, and stay on top of their to-dos. There are two flavors of this package:
Student Success Hub for K-12
You can install different plans for this package—the Base Plan provides the core package, the Full Configuration Plan additionally installs metadata configurations, and the Sample Data Plan includes sample data. The Full Configuration Plan is generally recommended.
Student Success Hub for Higher Education
Admissions Connect
This package extends EDA functionality to streamline application reviews and encourage collaboration. It also has functionality to facilitate applicant engagement.
Open Source Commons Packages
Salesforce.org has ongoing projects built and maintained by the Salesforce community known as the Open Source Commons. MetaDeploy offers several free packages from the Commons as well.
Open Source Commons Beneficial for Most Salesforce Organizations
Declarative Lookup Rollup Summaries (DLRS)
The Commons took over this popular package that lets admins create rollup calculations on lookup objects after its creator no longer had the bandwidth to support it. We currently don’t recommend using this product because it doesn’t play well with other automations on the object.
Salesforce Indicators
This package allows admins to visually highlight important data by displaying different icons and colors based on underlying data on lightning pages.
Open Source Commons with Somewhat Niche Applications
Grassroots Mobile Survey
This package lets nonprofits with field workers administer customizable surveys in places with spotty reception by letting them download surveys on mobile devices and complete them offline.
Summit Events App (SEA)
This package provides event management functionality focusing on educational institutions and nongovernmental organizations. It provides tracking of the full life cycle of events from web-based registration, receipting, and confirmation to reporting, and it can accommodate various event types, including paid events, free events, group events, and individual events.
Ombudsman Cloud Care
This package was developed for US Navy ombudsmen to manage their cases and can be used by ombudsman teams of any size. This secure tool was made to support large commands with many families. It streamlines case management processes and facilitates collaboration.
