For the third year in a row, our team members were guest readers during Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Pennsylvania’s Annual Reading Week. This year’s event coincided with Autism Awareness Month, which is a nationwide effort to promote autism awareness, inclusion, and self-determination for all, and assure that each person with autism is provided the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of life.
Four of us took turns reading to Devereux students who face intellectual, behavioral and emotional challenges. As Theresa Russell, Regional Director of Development at Devereux said, “The children were excited and inquisitive; your books sparked their interest and led to many interesting in-depth conversations. Reading is an adventure, a learning experience, and a gateway to places and people they might not otherwise encounter.”
We look forward to reading to the kids every year! Thanks to Taylor Kingsbury, Kristen Kelly, and Steve Lane, who joined me in reading at Devereux.
