Chicago – April 8, 2016 – For more than twelve years, Soliant Consulting has helped businesses leverage custom software to improve their profits, operations, and use of technology. The company has now begun deploying these same skills to help those who need it most through formal philanthropy initiatives.
By introducing its pro bono program, Soliant adds a powerful way for employees to give back to the larger community.
“We have been donating a portion of our revenue to local charities since the beginning,” said Soliant CEO Bob Bowers. “And our employees often donate their time to special events. But with skills-based donations, we can make an even bigger impact. By doing what we do best, building custom FileMaker, Salesforce, and Web apps, we can help nonprofits and social enterprises increase their abilities to pursue their missions.”
Soliant Consulting recently completed its first pro bono engagement, helping The Luke Commission (TLC), an internationally recognized non-governmental organization providing free medical services to people in rural Swaziland. The firm developed a custom FileMaker application for TLC.
The Luke Commission project was spearheaded by Makah Encarnacao, a Technical Project Lead at Soliant and Josie Graham, a Project Manager. Working together with TLC, the team developed an app that allows TLC doctors and nurses to quickly access up-to-date patient medical records, even in rural homesteads with spotty Internet connections.
“I cannot speak highly enough of the time and dedication [Soliant] put in,” said Tiffany Schlueter, Partnership Development Director at TLC. “We have been the recipient of a few other pro bono projects in other areas of our organization and, although people’s intentions are good, inevitably our projects end up getting pushed to the back-burner, causing major delays in their completion. That was never the case with Soliant. Had I not known better, I would have thought I was their top paying client.”
Having successfully completed its first pro bono project, Soliant Consulting is now actively pursuing other non-profit organizations that might benefit from the company’s skills and expertise.

On a similar note, the company recently announced the winner of its Fall 2016 Sunrise Scholarship: Robert Halfon, a Miami native, who will be attending the Wharton School of Business for undergraduate studies. In his scholarship essay, Robert addressed the important question of how a business can best balance philanthropy and profits.
“As members of an ever-growing world,” Robert wrote, “It is our mutual responsibility as humans to lend a hand to those in need and to make decisions that not only benefit us, but that that also benefit those around us.”
These sentiments perfectly sum up the thinking behind Soliant’s philanthropic efforts. The company is proud to award Robert its Fall 2016 Sunrise Scholarship.
