At the 2012 FileMaker Developer Conference, I presented a session on “Advanced Reporting Techniques,” and a number of attendees have followed up asking me for a copy of the demo file I used. I’ve attached it to this blog post. You’ll need to poke around through the scripts and layouts … this is the actual file I used in my presentation; it doesn’t have much in the way of documentation or navigation. Nevertheless, I hope it will be useful to get a better understanding of some of the looping and rendering techniques that I demonstrated. There are some good examples of ExecuteSQL in this file as well.
thanks for sharing, really nice session !
Thanks Bob, Excellent Presentation. I’ve used many of these methods in my own development, but the simplicity and modular nature of some of your scripts was just fantastic. In particular I remember discussing with a former colleague after the presentation how great it was, he said “I’ve used all those techniques before”, yes but is your code that clean, modular and concise? Anyway I guess what I’m trying to say is it was a really good session for users of at many levels. Some people probably were exposed to completely new ways of doing things while others like myself learned how to make our stuff better.
Thanks for posting this Bob. This was one of my favorite sessions at DevCon this year.
Bob
Thank you so much for sharing this.
This was one of the sessions where I know I learned things that will really push my FM skills in the future. Simple, clean and clever. What we strive for in our own solutions.
thank you for sharing, Bob. And yes, as we discussed in Miami, the availability of context-free data access in FileMaker 12 with ExecuteSQL will lead to a revision of the paradigm of data design (in FM).
Your samples and presentation made this very obvious to me and our colleagues.
Fantastic post, I really look forward to updates from you.
Thanks for the file. I loved your presentation both the material and your presentation. One of the most useful I attended.
For you Mac guys, Try OmniGrafflePro. I use OGP to do most of my buttons. Unlike Photoshop’s retasr drawing OGP is vector based so you can go back and easily move lines around and change font sizes etc. OGP has an advanced gradient tool that works wonders for making glossy interface elements.
I just finished watching the video of this DevCon presentation and wanted to say thank you. It was very interesting and informative. I learned quite a lot from it.
